I am a saxophonist and composer based in New York City. Nate Chinen, from The New York Times says, "Meicht is a tenor saxophonist with a robust tone and a venturesome streak, though he isn't averse to swinging." My current projects included Seth Meicht and the Big Sound Ensemble, an eight-piece band that John Sharpe from All About Jazz called " of the highpoints of the [Vision] Festival [2009]". This band recorded a live CD in Philadelphia in September 2009 to be released by CIMP Records next year. In addition to the Big Sound Ensemble I lead a trio and quartet with recordings on CIMP (Illumine, 2006), Cadence Jazz Records (The Seth Meicht Trio, 2005), Utech Records (cleft, 2003), and Scrapple Records (Loud Like Hemlocks, 2001 and Drinking Vinegar, 1999). I am also a member of saxophonist Odean Pope's Saxophone Choir and I recorded on the 2006 CD Locked and Loaded: Live at the Blue Note. This recording featured Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, and James Carter. Along with these great musicians I have had the chance to share ideas and the stage with such players as Ravi Coltrane, Byard Lancaster, Bobby Zankel, Gerald Veasley, Matt Bauder, Charles Evans, Darius Jones, Adam Lane, Mike Pride, Jason Kao Hwang, Andrew Drury, Aaron Meicht, William Parker, Steve Swell, Herb Robertson, and Dave Burrell. I have played such venues and festivals as The Montreal Jazz Festival, The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, The West Oak Lane Jazz Festival, The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, The Blue Note, The Kennedy Center, The Caramoor Jazz Festival, The Kimmel Center, The Tea Lounge, The Vision Festival, The Little Theater, Chris' Jazz Cafe, and The Stone.

I was born in West Chester, PA a town about 30 miles west of Philadelphia. I received a degree in music from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where I lived until 2006 when I moved to New York. While in Philadelphia I studied with Ron Kerber, Ben Schachter, and Bill Zaccagni. Upon graduating I began working as a saxophonist and composer in the Philadelphia area. The Meicht Group was an early original music ensemble I formed with trumpeter Aaron Meicht and drummer Brendan Dougherty. We self produced several CDs on Scrapple Records and played concerts throughout Philadelphia and New York at venues like the Ethical Society in Philadelphia and the Knitting Factory in New York. From 2001 to 2002 I lived in Paris, France. In 2003 I returned to Philadelphia and began to study with the great saxophonist Odean Pope. After some time I was asked to join Odean's world famous Saxophone Choir, of which I have been a member since 2005. In addition I have done commercial work and played in all styles and situations from gospel, funk, soul, and rock. I have done recording sessions, theater work and cabarets. I also teach music at a private school in New York, and in individual instruction settings.
